Revealing regimes of nonlinear light amplification in dielectrics

We present the observation of different regimes of nonlinear light amplification in optically excited sapphire and fused-silica via femtosecond imaging spectroscopy. We discuss possible mechanisms and implications of the novel understanding of light-matter interaction for current and future applications.
