Abstract
The chapter focuses on abortion as a political issue in the Faroese political system and states that the issue primarily has been a non-issue, except for the focus on the issue from abortion opponents. The chapter states that it is not possible to explain the previously lacking representation of the pro-choice view on the interest group level and still lacking representation on political party level based on the typical understanding of political pluralism and political competition. Instead, the chapter points to other factors, like intra-party factors and strategies from different types of conservative elites to keep the issue from the political agenda, as explaining factors. Finally, the chapter considers new trends and the increase in the salience of abortion as a political issue.
