N2 - In the first part of the session we will introduce Danish school garden practices and research focusing on goals and challenges related to the present state of integrating garden based learning in primary education in Denmark. A special focus will be on a discussion of teacher and student perspectives as they unfold with reference to specific values and learning goals that inform the pedagogical, didactical and spatial framework of Danish garden based learning. School gardens in Denmark are pedagogically connected to the strong tradition of outdoor education. Central elements are the specific format of whole day visits in the gardens and a value basis that emphasizes student involvement, -autonomy and freedom to negotiate their interpretations of the different activities framed within the context of growing, harvesting, cooking and eating. In the second part of the session we will invite for a discussion of findings and recommendations from a specific illustrative case study that has explored different practices around outdoor taste education. This discussion will focus on how different pedagogical and didactical approaches to teaching with, for and through taste can promote school gardens as inclusive and democratic learning environments.
