Open Wide: Didactic Rationales of a Dental Video Library

Research output: Contribution to conferenceConference abstract for conferenceResearchpeer-review

Video platforms (e.g. YouTubeTM) host a growing number of patient cases used by dental students as an educational resource. However, the didactic quality is oftentimes doubtful, and the content not aligned with dental school curricula1. Attention to how faculties could produce sustainable educational videos that reflect the state of the art, in clinical procedures, is required to improve student learning2. Only a few studies have analyzed the didactic underpinnings in development of faculty-driven video resources with influence on the continued growth and use3. This work explores the development of a video library in dentistry based on authentic patient material. The library aimed to encompass a wide range of diagnostic measures and therapeutic procedures pertinent to the dental field and to serve as an open resource supplement to hands-on teaching for dental students and faculty members.
