It is shown that a locally injective surjection on a compact metric space is a factor of a local homeomorphism in such a way that the associated C*-algebras are isomorphic. This is subsequently used to obtain upper and lower bounds for the possible β-values of KMS-states for generalized gauge actions on the C*-algebra.
