Abstract
Traditionally, bilingual law dictionaries have merely given information about legal terms, but translation dictionaries within the field of law need to contain more than terminological information. To become a translation dictionary proper, the concept of the bilingual law dictionary has to be extended to include encyclopedic and linguistic information, especially stylistic information about the legal usage of the languages involved. The optimum legal translation dictionary should contain separate "chapters" dealing with the different linguistic aspects of legal translation across cultures, and it is much more than just a book containing a list of terms in the source language and their translations into the target language.
