This paper presents the Internet of Things (IoT) search framework IoTCrawler. Due to the development of the Internet of Things and the availability of more and more IoT data sources, searching and integrating appropriate data sources becomes essential in order to leverage all this knowledge for improving processes and services. IoTCrawler is therefore not only another IoT framework, it is a system of systems by integrating existing solutions to offer interoperability and to overcome fragmentation. Besides its domain-independent design, IoTCrawler offers solutions to allow crawling, indexing, and searching of IoT data sources while ensuring privacy and security, adaptivity, and reliability. The concept is proven by addressing a list of challenges defined for the IoT and extensive evaluation. In addition, real world use cases showcase the applicability of the framework and provide examples of how it can be instantiated for new scenarios.
