Two series of articles are included in the FEBS Journal Special Issue on Signalling: this series is based on the international symposium "Ca(2+) Signalling and Transport in Health and Disease", which was held in Aarhus, Denmark, 19-20 June 2012, whereas the accompanying series entitled Frontiers in Cell Signalling is based on the 6(th) Garvan Signalling Symposium, 15-16 October 2012. The meeting "Ca(2+) Signalling and Transport in Health and Disease" was hosted by Aarhus University and sponsored by two centres of excellence, the SPOTlight centre funded by the Danish Council for Strategic Research and the PUMPkin centre funded by the Danish National Research Foundation. The aim of the meeting was to provide an overview of recent developments and future perspectives in the area of calcium transport and signalling. Particular focus was on various calcium channels and pumps, and their regulation. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
