HRM scholars have widely acknowledged that realizing HRM requires involvement of all managers; in the context of involving line management with HRM we need to understand how they perceive the importance of HRM and what relevance HRM related activities have in their daily business. In this paper we contribute to that literature by examining what importance managers give to HRM related activities in contrast to their other managerial activities and how male and female managers differ in their perception. Based on our analysis of 1.500 Danish managers we find that female managers show relatively higher relevance for HRM related activities. Finally, we discuss potential explanations for managers' perception of HRM compared with other activities.
