High-throughput phage isolation - from sample to sequence

Phage therapy is a promising alternative to the use of antibiotics but requires a collection of multiple highly virulent phages to a wide range of pathogenic hosts. Wastewater and other environments with high levels of bacteria are the perfect places to search for such phages. A novel, high-throughput phage screening method based on incubation in microtiter well-plates allows for a faster and more efficient screening of a high number of samples requiring only small sample volumes. This enables the identification of hundreds of phages within a week.
