“He should take a course…” – a qualitative exploration of children’s healthy eating as a battlefield for parents

Aim: To investigate “ordinary” mothers’ perceptions and subjective experiences of managing healthy eating in families with adolescents.
Method: Group interviews with 38 families including an innovative fruit and vegetable session.
Results: Mothers defined a number of personal responsibilities in relation to the family’s healthy eating and they constructed “healthy eating” ideals that suited their family and left room for compromises with the adolescent.
Conclusion: This study contributes to the field of consumer socialisation related to food consumption with focus on adolecents.
