Creating health together: how HIS resources can boost co-creation elasticity

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperResearchpeer-review

The relationship between healthcare professionals and patients has changed from being dominated by the healthcare professional to being collaborative. This collaborative relationship requires tools to support mutual needs. Health Information Systems (HIS) are available to use, but it is still not clear how or even whether they create value. This paper systematically reviews the literature to understand how HIS create real value in intended and unintended ways. We place a specific focus on the healthcare professional-patient relationship by applying a co-creation of value perspective to the literature. The review contributes an overview of how the intended and unintended consequences of HIS affect the co-creation of value by healthcare professionals and patients. It is argued, that by understanding how these consequences support value creation, the healthcare industry is better prepared and qualified to make decisions about which technologies to use and how.
