Characterizing the role of cytokinin transport in Lotus japonicus nodule development

Among complex plant hormone signaling, cytokinin (CK) is both necessary and sufficient for the cortical cell divisions observed during nodule development. However, little is known about the role of CK transport in regulating hormone localization and signaling. The aim of this project is to characterize the role of short and long distance CK transporters in regulating nodule development and CK signaling in L. japonicus. This study will characterize the role of purine permease (PUP) family – a putative CK transporter family during legume nodulation, and will give further insight into the role of CK during nodule development and regulation.
