Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to investigate how service-based organizations can continuously capitalize on knowledge across their multiple project management office (PMO) setup to fast-track adaptation and deliver value to their clients. Based on literature on PMO and knowledge management, this paper utilizes a Design Science Research (DSR) methodology and contributes to theory and practice in three ways. First, it links knowledge management activities with the multiple PMO-setup. Second, it conceptualizes the PMO as a temporary organization within organizational contexts. Lastly, this paper contributes methodologically as it illustrates the utility of DSR to address the interplay between knowledge management and cross- and inter-organizational PMOs.
