Somme le Roi – Des Coninx Summe Project

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Des Coninx Summe is the early fifteenth century Dutch translation of the French Somme le Roi, written in 1279 by the Dominican friar, Laurent d’Orléans. The aim of our project is to connect the Dutch translation to the Northern French manuscript group. The project will culminate in a new edition of the Dutch text, which will incorporate newly discovered manuscripts (absent from the 1885 Tinbergen edition) and a complete biography of the author, Jan van Brederode, based on new evidence from French archives. A “volume collectif” is to be published in 2015, in collaboration with Anne-Françoise Leurquin-Labie – who, together with Édith Brayer, published a modern edition of the French text in 2008 – and Florence Bourgne, who is currently researching English translations of the Somme le Roi. This collective volume will be published at the Institut de recherche et d’histoire des textes (IRHT-CNRS, Université Paris IV Sorbonne) within the framework of the OPVS Project.
