The screening program developed in the context of Art&Tech Days 2019, a festival devoted to exploring language and communication in art and technology.
Technologically conditioned, contemporary spaces of human activity – residually natural and synthetic, subjugated and observed, private and public ones – are saturated with communication processes which increasingly rely on images. The program showcases various image-based artistic practices and a range of positions that artists take in creative processes. To start with, artists initiate, arrange and participate in events (Piskorska, Shostak, and Jasiukiewicz); they interrogate the status of images which are politically sanctioned (Soon) and simulate reality (Baron); armed with technical tools of surveillance, they observe non-human others; finally, artists penetrate the virtual overlay of the real world (Taniguchi) and reveal the mechanisms media use to aestheticize conflicts (Silberstein).
