RAMVAR – Genetic variation in ramsons – from nature to cultivation

Project: Research

See relations at Aarhus University

The aim of the project is to collect and compare growth and content of biochemical compounds (mainly allicin) in ramsons (Allium ursinum) from a number of Danish wild populations, with the aim to 1). Identify and select the most interesting genetic origin for sustainable cultivation, 2.) procure seed accessions of these ramsons populations into Nordic Genebank, 3). establish knowledge on differences between populations in biochemical profile, taste and antibacterial compounds, 4). Compare plant performance of populations with respect to efficient and sustainable cultivation of ramsons regarding plant health, weed competition and growth. A common garden living population genebank with populations will be established in AU Årslev and kept for at least 5 years.
