Study nitric oxide (NO) mediated basal resistance in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) and its impact on powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis) and leaf rust (Puccinia hordei), the predominant pathogens infecting barley in Denmark.
To link such NO-resistance mechanisms to the N use in an agriculturally relevant context.
Modulate cellular NO by plant haemoglobin gene expression to decrease pathogen infection progression and identify S-nitrosylated proteins and genes regulated specifically by NO.
Investigate the difference in NO turnover in plan ts by screening a range of compatible and incompatible host -pathogen interactions in elite barley germplasm as a likely indicator of variation in wide -ranging durable resistance.
