Description

r a long period of time, the higher education and research sector has been framed by a excellence discourse, as shown in for instance rankings, mergers, recruitment of star researchers, and centres of excellence. In this project, the focus is on the wider societal role of modern universities, complementing and challenging the current policy ideas on excellence and world-class. In a series of three workshops during 2017-2018, a team of researchers (both senior and junior) will address issues like social and economic inequalities, widening participation and responsibilities. Four countries are involved – Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The tangible outcomes from the project include publications in peer reviewed international journal, a policy report, research proposal discussions and a website. One of the workshops will also include practitioners and policy makers.
