Methane production from the feed's fibre fraction must take place in manure for biogas and not in the pig

Danish pig production is exposed to criticism of its impact on the climate because the animals and slurry storage emit methane. The project aims to investigate whether the choice of feed ingredients with different fibre types for fattening pigs and gestating sows can be optimized to reduce methane emissions from pig production. The feed ingredients with a high content of insoluble fibre can probably give a significant reduction in enteric methane emissions from pigs compared to feed ingredients with a high content of soluble fibre, and at the same time will increase biogas production and methane content of biogas.
The project is funded by the Danish Pig Levy Foundation.
