The project is a longitudinal study of brain and cognitive development in kids aged 7 - 12. Every half year the children participate in structural MR scanning (voxel-based morphometry and diffusion tensor imaging) and their cognitive development is assessed based on selected neuropsychological tests. At the same time their reading- and math abilities as well as the instruction they receive in school is monitored. The aim of the project is to relate knowledge of brain development with knowledge of cognitive abilities and reading and math performance in school. Special interest will be taken in examining individual differences in brain development and how such differences relate to cognitive functioning and reading and math abilities.
