Gynecology: Abdominal hysterectomy: A randomized controlled study on in- and outpatient regimen.

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Hysterectomy is a common surgical procedure in women. By tradition this procedure is performed as an inpatient procedure with 1 – 2 days of hospitalization. Of the three types of approaches to hysterectomy the abdominal hysterectomy (AH) is the most common in Denmark. It is a safe procedure with few complications. The procedure is performed as fast-track surgery with intensive postoperative rehabilitation on an in-patient basis. An out-patient approach would imply major reductions in cost, but might afford significant reductions in patient's satisfaction. In this randomised controlled trial, the in- and outpatient regimen for AH are compared. Primary outcomes are patients satisfaction and anxiety.
