A transition to a greener economy will be necessary to meet the environmental challenges in the Nordic countries as well as in the rest of the world in the coming decades. Achieving green growth and growth in green sectors will entail developing green industries as well as ensuring that the more traditional sectors also integrate green ways of working and developing their businesses.

To gain insight into the future needs for educated labor in the green sectors, there is a need for information about the future economic structures at relevant environmental policy scenarios and clarification of definitions.

The project evaluates and clarifies the concepts related to green jobs; reviews the present and future extent of “green jobs” and “green sectors” in the Nordic countries; evaluates the future need for competence and education related to green jobs and evaluates the lack of information underpinning sound decision making.

The project is financed under the Nordic Council of Ministers. It is lead by Vista-Analyse (Norway) and is carried out in cooperation with Gaia (Finland) and DCE (Denmark).
