EEG-Tapping Subdivisions

Participants (musicians and non-musicians) had to tap to the beat of four distinct subdivisions (duplets, triplets quadruplets and quintuplets) while their EEG was recorded. The motor conditions were compared to "just-listening" conditions.

Key findings

The neural entrainment (EEG) to finger-tapping to the beat of distinct subdivisions can differentiate whether participants pursued formal training in music.
