Description

BIOMAP aims to investigate and verify electric potential differences on the soil surface, generated by electro-active microorganisms, as indicators of soil pollution. BIOMAP will investigate the mechanisms in detail and develop and bring to market a technique for soil pollution mapping that can save a large part of the spending on pollution mapping, which for the Danish society alone is approx. €27 mill. yearly. With this technique, a site can be mapped at a cost several times less compared to conventional drilling and much faster. Pilot investigations have been promising, and in BIOMAP we will make investigate a range of site types and conditions to make a robust algorithm. The final goal of BIOMAP is to commercialize pollution mapping services and instruments.

BIOMAP er et projekt der skal udnytte 'signaler- fra elektriske bakterier til at kortlægge forurening. 'Elektriske bakterier' dækker over det fænomen, at visse bakterier kan transportere elektroner i deres stofskifte og derved skaber elektriske spændingsforskelle i omgivelserne. Pilot-undersøgelser viser at sådanne bakterier findes ved jordforureninger og skaber elektriske forskelle. Formålet med BIOMAP er at undersøge en række forurenende grunde detaljeret, og skabe en forståelse der gør det muligt at kortlægge jordforurening med simple og billige overflademålinger og udvikle metoder og udstyr til dette.
