    Description

Many business metaphors stem from war, sports, and machines. But in recent years, art metaphors have emerged in the management literature - like Jamming (John Kao), Business Theatre (Pine & Gilmore) and Leadership Jazz (Max De Pree).
Since metaphors shape the way we see and think about the world, we should test the power of these art metaphors. Is it helpful to use art metaphors in business organisations, or are art metaphors likely to misrepresent organisational life? Can metaphors drawn from the arts contribute to communicate new values and facilitate organisational change, or are they mere rhetoric? Do they direct our understanding of the organisation in a specific way? The project Art Meta-4 is concerned with why and how the arts are used as organisational metaphors.
