The Diagnostic Centre – University Research Clinic for Innovative Patient Pathways, Regional Hospital Silkeborg has developed the Flexible Admission Patient Pathway. This allows patients with COPD, IBD, liver cirrhosis, cardiac fibrillation and congestive heart failure to contact the hospital around the clock if experiencing an acute exacerbation of the chronic disease.
The aim of this PhD project is to (1) describe healthcare utilization of Danish patients who are eligible for the flexible admission patient
pathway, (2) describe the details and development of the flexible admission patient pathway and (3) investigate whether the flexible admission patient pathway reduces healthcare utilization and is cost effective.
