A World in Sound: intersections of aesthetics, technology and world experience

This post doc project primary aim is to investigate not what sound art works mean, but how: How do they establish their narrative or contextual content? The project is specifically interested in sound arts use of "media" in the broadest sense of the word: The use of already existing technical or technological media, but also the use and mixing of different artistic media - for instance the mixture of sound and installation, which is often seen in sound art works.
The projects seeks to bridge the very different research traditions in on the one hand the Germanic academia, that is primarily concerned with questions of intermediality and the use of technical and technological media and on the other hand the anglophone research that is more focussed on sound and listening. This attempt to integrate these very different approaches to sound art will take place on two levels: in my own research I attempt to integrate all these perspectives in,
and furthermore the project will arrange a large international seminar in 2014/ 2015 and the project also hosts a Nordic Network for Sound Art Studies.
