My research aims to create new knowledge and technologies for more sustainable, adaptive and hazard-resilient civil engineering structures. The research focus is to quantify the stochastic dynamic load effects caused by natural hazards (e.g. strong winds and sea waves) on civil structures, and to develop innovative strategies to mitigate and control their effects. More specifically, we aim to develop fundamental understandings of the physics of the dynamical load-structure system and to develop mathematical and computational models that can be employed in engineering analysis and design.

  • Structural dynamics: Stochastic dynamics (random vibration), vibration control, nonlinear vibration
  • Wind turbines: Wind turbine aerodynamics and structural dynamics, floating wind turbines, aeroelastic stability of wind turbines
  • Wind engineering: Aeroelasticity of structures, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), flow induced vibration
  • Offshore engineering: Modeling and control of wave energy convertors, offshore floating structures
  • Smart structures: Responsive structure, smart control technique
  • Real-time hybrid testing (hardware-in-the-loop simulation)
