I'm fascinated by the microbes thriving on and in Greenlandic ice sheets. How do they cope with the harsh environments there through genome evolution and metabolic innovation? How do they respond to global environmental changes? Can we retrieve any information from their genomes that can reflect the past climate changes? The cold ecosystems in Greenland are teeming with microbial lives. We understand so little about their evolutionary past and ecological importance. These microbes are also an untapped rich resource of biotechnological potential. My current research is all about these "little but cool" things.
