Personal profile

Research

My research is primarily about democracy and how democracy can be defended against political forces that might undermine it. Central to this is the role of different actors and the means they can use. Among the actors are public authorities, political actors, civil society movements and organizations, as well as international and supranational organizations. Among the means are legal, political, cultural and economic.

Cooperation and dissemination

I collaborate formally and informally with a number of colleagues both at Danish universities and at universities abroad. In a recent collaboration on the project 'Populism and Democratic Defence in Europe', we have been partners from 5 different universities. The project is funded by the Carlsberg Foundation.

Teaching

My teaching concerns immigration, integration, citizenship, multiculturalism, tolerance and recognition. I also have seminars on democracy and its defense, including the role of citizens in defending their own democratic rights for example through (un)civil disobedience,  riots and revolutions. I supervise bachelor, master and PhD students in these topics.
