I am currently pursuing PhD at Department of Agroecology, Aarhus Universitet Foulum. My research interests are near surface geophysics, digital soil mapping and subsurface drainage systems.

Prior to PhD, I completed an MPhil degree in Geoscience at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. My thesis was on: Three-dimensional mapping of soil properties using geophysical instruments.

I also completed an integrated MSc degree in Exploration Geophysics from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India. My experience encompasses all kind of near-surface geophysical methods such as resistivity, seismics, magnetometry, electromagnetic induction and ground penetrating radar.

PhD Project: Mapping of subsurface drainage in agricultural areas using proximal and remote sensors

  • Subsurface drainage (popularly known as "tile drains") are artificial drainage systems installed in agricultural areas to convert poorly drained soils into productive cropland.
  • The leaching of nutrients in artificially drained areas is a potential eutrophication risk due to percolation of solutes through the drainage pipes.
  • The traditional methods of mapping the position of the drain lines involve the use of tile probes and trenching equipment which are invasive and labour intensive.

In my PhD, I am testing different proximal and remote sensors to determine their potential to map the drain lines. The thesis will aim at providing guidelines in relation to the choice of the sensor depending upon in-situ soil and hydrological conditions.
