In my PhD project, I study how 20 novels published between 1990 and 2010 portray Western music as practice and artform: How is literature a privileged medium to discuss practises and effects of Western music? How can literature configure social knowledge about Western music – and contribute to that discourse?
The project is placed within the interdisciplinary and international field of Word and Music Studies.
From a phenomenological and post-critical point of departure, I study the corpus of novels through the methods of close comparative readings and a digital textmining approach (“distant reading”). I include theory from literary criticism, (music) sociology, cultural studies, and discourse analysis.
