BACKGROUND

Globally, a huge amount of pharmaceuticals are distributed and consumed per year. Even after passing through the treatment plant, a proximate water body is continuously supplied with trace amount of pharmaceutical and illicit drugs due to privation in precise sewage treatment. Its concentration may vary from few ngL-1 to several µgL-1 in eminent water bodies thus echoes the deteriorating quality of water.

Unlike conventional treatment methods, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) e.g. Ozonation are recognized tools degrade these organic pharmaceuticals

AIM

This study focus on advance oxidation technology as a viable option for the removal of active pharmaceuticals ingredients; evaluating and optimizing process for a full-scale ozonation system at the wastewater treatment plant. Furthermore, the fate of transformation products will be studied as a function of specific ozone dose.

 

RESEARCH OUTLINE

The outcome of this study will be useful on gaining knowledge on different process parameter used for full-scale operation of ozonation plant. It will also provide new insight on the fate transformation products formed during ozonation.
