Laboratory measurements of rock thermal properties

The thermal properties of rocks are key elements in understanding and modelling the temperature field of the subsurface. Thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity can
be measured in the laboratory if rock samples can be provided. We have introduced improvements to the divided bar and needle probe methods to be able to measure
both thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity. The improvements we implement include, for both methods, a combination of fast numerical finite element forward
modelling and a Markov Chain Monte Carlo inversion scheme for estimating rock thermal parameters
