Personal profile

Research

I study how early life adversity shapes neurodevelopment and increases risk for psychiatric disorders, particularly substance use disorders. Using human cohorts, rodent models, and in vitro systems, I investigate molecular mechanisms involving stress, epigenetics, extracellular vesicles, and neuroimaging. I maintain a strong international network, especially with Brazil and the United States.

Commissioned

I provide consultancy in neuroscience, developmental neurobiology, and molecular and biological psychiatry. I advise on study design, neuroimaging, omics approaches, and nanotools in translational research. I serve as an ad hoc reviewer, participate in evaluation boards, and collaborate with industry partners.

Cooperation and dissemination

I collaborate through major consortia such as HappyMums (Horizon Europe, 17+ partners), the ENIGMA Addiction Working Group, the MIND Consortium (Neuroimaging and Epigenetics), the Brazilian Children High-Risk Cohort , and a GWAS/EWAS cohort focused on cocaine dependence. My network spans Europe, North and South America, fostering active partnerships with universities and research institutes and supporting continuous exchange of students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty members.

Teaching

I teach at undergraduate and graduate levels in neuroscience, psychiatry, and molecular biology. I have supervised over 120 students across all levels. My teaching focuses on neurodevelopment, early adversity, stress biology, addiction neuroscience, neuroimaging, and epigenetic regulation, with active participation in international exchange programs.
