Results from the studies by Adolfo Rubinstein and colleagues1 and Denis Xavier and colleagues2 reported in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology showed promising evidence for the effectiveness of mobile phone-based health interventions (mHealth) and community health worker interventions. In his Comment on Rubinstein and colleagues' study, Gerald Bloomfield3 highlighted the future challenges for implementation of mHealth interventions. We believe that the high burden of cardiovascular disease in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) could potentially be tackled with the use of interventions that combine mHealth and community health workers in a broader health-system context, while learning from previous studies of community health worker4,5 and mHealth-based interventions.
