Medical degree from Aarhus University 1987, specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry 1996.

Doctor of medicine (DM.SC.) from Aarhus University 1996.

1998: Senior consultant, Psychiatric Hospital for Children and Adolescents and research director of the Research Centre, Psychiatric Hospital for Children and Adolescents, Aarhus, Denmark.

From 1998 professor of child and adolescent psychiatry at Aarhus University.

Since 2000 visiting professor at the University in Bergen, Norway.

Since 2005 visiting professor at University of Copenhagen, Denmark.


Per Hove Thomsen's primary research areas are OCD in children and adolescents, ADHD, Tourette's syndrome and depression in children.

He has published more than 100 scientific papers on OCD, ADHD and other areas in child and adolescent psychiatry (62 as first or sole author). He is author of a number of textbooks (or chapters in textbooks) on different topics in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry.


Member of the steering committee for Nordic Research in Child Psychiatry.

Member of the thesis and research education committee at Aarhus University.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Editor for Nordic Journal of Psychiatry.

Chairman of the Committee regarding a Danish reference programme for the treatment of ADHD.

Member of the European Research Group on Childhood OCD. Participants from Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Holland and France, member of the steering group.

Member of the steering group of NordLOTS, a Norwegian-Swedish-Danish research collaboration.


Main- and assistant supervisor on more ph.d.-projects. Referee and critic on more doctoral thesis and ph.d.-dissertations, in Denmark as well as abroad. Referee at the appointment of more professorships and lectureships in Denmark as well as the Nordic countries.


2002-:       Member of the Danish Retslægerådet.

2004-:       Member of The European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products. Evaluation of Medicines for Human Use. (Participates as an expert for the Danish Medicines Agency)

2004-:       Faculty Member of Anxiety Disorders - Section Evaluation Board.

2006-:       Chairman for the Counsel for child and adolescent psychiatry in Region Midtjylland

2007-:       Member of World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry's Task Force on Child Psychiatry
