Personal profile

Research

My research spans the field of environmental chemistry, water quality, water technology and management, and broader approaches to the circular use of resources.
I make use of analytical tools to characterize pollutants in water and related matrices, also to develop water treatment technology, namely nature-based solutions, novel fixed biofilm reactors and bioelectrochemical systems.

Cooperation and dissemination

Co-chair of the International Water Association Specialist Group on Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control. Collaborating with more than 20 international partners in different national and European projects. Coordinator of the Marie Curie Staff Exchange Project NEUTRAL4GS. Management committee member of several COST Actions dealing with bioremediation, water quality, reuse, and treatment.

Education/Academic qualification

Chemistry, PhD, Implementation of methodologies for removal of veterinary pharmaceutical residues from WWTPs effluents of the livestock industry, University of Porto
