Personal profile
Research
I have a special interest in using machine learning to develop novel techniques for use in medicine – with a special focus on using large scale methods (e.g. metabolomics). My current collaborations are within forensics and blood donors.
Profile
I am an expert in statistics, genomics and bioinformatics with focus on applied statistics, data science and machine learning. I love data and data driven research with a special focus on applied research that can improve society. I have a special interest in using machine learning to develop novel techniques for use in medicine – with a special focus on using large scale methods (e.g. metabolomics).
I have a strong background in population biology, population genetics and genome evolution and analysis but with more than 20 years of experience within the field of bioinformatics.
I have multiple collaborators within biolology, medicine and forensics.
Commissioned
I am happy to advise others within data analysis, power analysis, and experimental design for various biological and biomedical research analyses. And more broadly within Machine Learning and AI - and other aspects of data science.
For advisory purposes, I have a sole proprietorship consultancy (Panformatics, CVR: 30795067). Please contact me at [email protected].
Cooperation and dissemination
I collaborate very broadly with other universities (Sheffield, Linköping, Nice) and other researchers at AU and AUH (Biology, Dentistry, Forensic Medicine, Blood Bank).
In addition, I continuously collaborate with companies in various student projects (e.g. FOSS Analytics, Bestseller).
Common to all collaborations is that we all have to find it relevant, important, and not least fun for all of us to participate in.
Teaching
I develop and teach university courses at the BSc, MSc, and PhD level. Currently, I primarily teach HPC (high performance computing), Data Science, and Machine Learning.
I am curious about the use of new tools in teaching and the opportunities that, for example, generative AI provides to students, and I implement and evaluate them continuously.
Common to all courses is the use of peer review and 2 instructors, so we keep each other sharp and continuously develop and improve our courses.
Job responsibilities
I am an associate professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University, where I work in the Bioinformatics Unit.
My areas of work include bioinformatics, statistics, data science, metabolomics, machine learning, and AI. I have a background in population biology, population genetics, and genome evolution and analysis, with over 20 years of experience in bioinformatics.
