My main research interest is the pathophysiology and therapy of neuropathic pain. Current areas include spinal cord injury pain, diabetic and chemotherapy-induced painful polyneuropathy, postsurgical neuropathic pain, thermal sensory integration, neurophysiological assessment of pain mechanisms, neuropharmacology, clinical trials, and systematic reviews. I am past-chair of the Neuropathic Pain Special Interest Group (NeuPSIG) of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and past president of the Scandinavian Association for the Study of pain (SASP). I am section editor of the journal PAIN and member of the IASP Task Force for the Classification of Chronic Pain in ICD-11. I have participated in the Innovative Medicines Initiative grant “EUROPAIN”, and is currently deputy coordinator and WP leader in the DOLORisk Consortium funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme; steering group member of the International Diabetic Neuropathy Center (IDNC), and WP academic lead in the EU Innovative Medicines Intiative 2 grant BioPain.
