I study the politics of housing, urban development and electoral accountability.
My research focuses on the the political causes and consequences of the recent surge in housing prices in Europe and North America, which has led to a housing affordability crisis in some of the world's most productive cities. For instance, I have examined how increased inequality in housing prices can inform our understanding of the successes and failures of national governments, as well as the rise of right wing populist parties. I am currently exploring the political power of homeowners in local government, the relationship between localist institutions and land use policy as well as whether localist citizens, who oppose new development, are more likely to select into increasingly expensive cities.
In 2023 I received a Starting Grant from the European Research Council and in 2022 I recieved a Semper Ardens: Accelerate grant from the Carlsberg foundation.
Some of my work has been published in the American Political Science Review, the Journal of Politics and the British Journal of Political Science.
