Environmental economic assessment of novel circular economy and bio-economy technologies

This chapter provides a brief overview of state of the art in accounting for externalities, accompanied by an illustrative example of an impact assessment relating to a bio-refinery vision based on circular economy and bio-economy principles. With the methodology nested in principles of environmental economics, the chapter opens with a brief introduction to some main strands of research within this discipline to position the challenges of achieving a circular economy that is sustainable and with net environmental gains.
