Personal profile

Profile

With an academic background in literature, cultural studies, sociolinguistics, linguistic and education anthropology, I am currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Danish School of Education, Faculty of Arts, Aarhus University. Our project is titled 'Moral Economies of Schooling in Nepal: Money, Morality and Household Financing of Education'. My sub-study in this project will be based on the India-Nepal border.

I hold a D.Phil. (PhD) from the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Oxford. My doctoral research focused on language and postcolonial shame in India within the context of education, with a comparative case study of Wales, UK. My fieldwork was based in New Delhi, India and Aberystwyth, Wales, as I compared Hindi language politics and Welsh language politics and their impact on the language teaching ecosystems in both regions.

Previously, my academic work has been focused on language politics and hierarchies in India. I also have 5+ years of professional experience in the field of higher education in New Delhi, India. I am also a literary translator, working on translating literature for young readers, between English, Hindi and Urdu.

I am also a Member of Trustee at the National Library of Wales; a Member of the Board of Management at the Vedica Scholars Programme for Women, New Delhi; and an Executive Committee Member at the Bhartiya Anuvad Parishad (Translators' Association of India).
