PhD project: Portable sensors for personal exposure monitoring
Supervisor: Professor Ole Hertel, Department of Environmental Science, Aarhus University
Co-supervisor: Professor Clive Sable, Department of Environmental Science, Aarhus University
Project term: 01.02.2019 – 31.01.2022
Background: MSc in Atmospheric Chemistry (2015), Department of Chemistry, University of Copenhagen
During our daily life, we constantly move in time and space through different environments both indoor and outdoor. We commute between home and work, spend time indoor with household activities, or play with kids at the local playground. Thus, we are constantly exposed to highly variable concentrations of air pollution with documented evidence for negative health effects.
The objective of the PhD project is to contribute to the knowledge of personal exposure assessment by validating, testing, and applying portable, air pollution sensors for personal exposure monitoring (PEM) when people interact with different microenvironments. The project will support the interest of the Big Data Centre for Environment and Health (BERTHA) hosted by Department of Environmental Science (ENVS), Aarhus University and lead by Prof. Clive Sabel. One of the purposes of BERTHA is to improve the PEM studies and thereby the data for determining the impacts associated with air pollution exposures.
