I’m an interdisciplinary rhetorician, semiotician, and overall qualitiative communication scholar. My research explores the role of language and other systems of communication plays in creating social change in 21st century mediatised and neoliberal society. Here, I see social change as a rhetorical process, enacted by the intersection of political ideology, social discourses, and cultural memory. I’m therefore interested in examining the major social disparities of our time: climate change and environmental justice; social equality; transnational governance and deliberation in politics; and public trust and understanding in science.
My teaching and research areas specifically in rhetoric thus include deliberative democracy and political rhetoric, environmental rhetoric (and STS), new media, multimodal argumentation, social movements, feminist rhetoric, material rhetoric, and rhetorical field methods.
