Maja Bak Herrie


Maja Bak Herrie holds a PhD in Aesthetics and Culture from School of Communication and Culture at Aarhus University. In her PhD project The Digital Object: Aesthetics, Data and Cultural Techniques, she developed the concept of the digital object that can be used in analyses of aesthetic and cultural possibilities and challenges brought about by new forms of data and data processing. The project took its point of departure in analyses of contemporary artistic practises occupied with exploring digital as well as physical formats through, e.g. data visualisation.

Her areas of research and teaching includes new media and technologies, data and data processing, aesthetic theory, -philosophy and -history, and the theory and history of science.

She is affiliated with the research program Contemporary Aesthetics and Technology, the network Nordic Network for Women in Aesthetics, the groups ADA (Analysis of Digital Aesthetics) and Art, Senses and Technology, and is one of the founders and coordinators of the junior research network Recalcitrant Aesthetics - Objects, Affect, and Materiality.
