Research
Our research aims to enhance the understanding of the social determinants and individual behavioural and psychosocial predictors of oral health conditions and oral health-related quality of life. We focus on epidemiologic studies using primary and secondary data and robust statistical methods.
Profile
I have bachelor degree in Dentistry and MSc in Periodontology. My PhD in Epidemiology and Public Health was at Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Brazil) and University College London (UK). I am Fellow at the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in the UK since 2015. Since 1996 I have been teaching, carrying out research, coordinating courses and taking leadership roles in Higher Education. I have international reputation on innovative and interdisciplinary teaching and research in dentistry, epidemiology, public health and biostatistics with special focus on dental public health, oral epidemiology, behavioural sciences, and health services research.
Job responsibilities
I am the chair in Oral Epidemiology and Public Health at the Department of Dentistry and Oral Health, Aarhus University. I conduct international collaborative research in population oral health, oral epidemiology involving deprived and socially disadvantege people. In addition, I act as mentor for postdocs and junior academics. My teaching contributions are in social determinants of health, oral epidemiology and periodontology.
