Personal profile

Profile

My primary interest lies in the interaction between (micro-)biota and geochemical and geophysical processes on Earth. I specialize in the molecular assessment of extreme oligotrophic habitats, such as desert subsurfaces and terrestrial deep biosphere environments. My research focuses on exploring the biodiversity and functions of highly adapted microbial communities in these unique ecosystems.

Further, I want to investigate complex microbial processes impacting climate dynamics and resource availability by applying molecular tools in anthropogenically impacted terrestrial environments. In the amoA project I use my expertise in meta-omic data analysis and cross-disciplinary research to gain more knowledge about potential impacts of nitrification inhibitors on microbial communities in agricultural soils.
