Scientific focus areas:

In close collaboration with colleagues from my network in Denmark, United States, New Zealand, and Japan, I am among the world-leading scientists in several soil physics research areas including:

  • Colloid-facilitated transport of strongly sorbing compounds
  • Understanding and quantifying interactions between key soil processes and soil architecture
  • Water repellency and fingered flow in soils
  • Diffusion and volatilization of volatile organic chemicals
  • Heterogeneous transport of water and solutes in macroporous medium
  • Soil function of arctic soils
  • Soil spectroscopy; predicting soil characteristics and soil functions by spectroscopy

Academic awards and honours include:

Winner of the Don and Betty Kirkham Soil Physics Award (2021); Soil Science Society of America. The award is designed to recognize a mid-career soil scientist who has made outstanding contributions in the areas of soil physics.

Fellow of the Soil Science Society of America (2018). Highest recognition given by the Society

Appointed member of the Independent Research Fund Denmark by the Danish Minister for Higher Education and Science (2019-2022)
